A little series of Ruffle-Rim Vases made with the rare Uranium Oxide-Yellow glaze.
These are really spectacular. I have changed my process a little, and I am now getting an intense, saturated yellow.
As with all of my uranium-glazed work, the foot of each vase is enscribed "URANIUM", in addition to my name and the date. |
Uranium-Yellow Ruffle-Rim Vase
#8,
8-3/4" tall x 5-1/2" diameter,
$475. |
10/03/11 All
prices include shipping, etc. Most of the work I have done this year has either been with my Uranium-Yellow glaze, or has been experimental work with silver nitrate on plates. Here are some more conventional pieces. Acyually, these are older pieces, one of which dates all the way back to 2002. Every once in a while I stumble upon an unexpected cache of older work, and that is the case here. Some are typical, but a few are reallt spectacular pieces.

The pinkish-yellow-orange vase on the far left above is interesting. It is colored with copper, however it was fired in a kiln containing silver nitrate, which fumed and affected this piece. If not for the silver fumes, this piece would be green. This coloring is unpredictable and virtually impossible to reproduce intentionally.

It is a little hard to tell from the pictures, but the three pieces above are "flask" shaped. They are thrown on the potter's wheel as cylindrical vases, and then they are pressed and flattened by hand while the clay is still soft. Stoneware flasks were a common item in colonial America. They typically had cork stoppers and were carried in hip pockets.

pepper shapes while still soft.
Also, I have some new uranium-yellow vases. For more information regarding

This was an interesting experiment. The big primary crystals are covered
with small
rod-shaped crystals. I couldn't capture it very well in the pictures,
but the little rods
in the background sparkle like crazy.
